"A 2006 graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, Lina Peterson has alreday exhibited in many international group shows including ALCHEMY: Contemporary Jewellery from Britain. Peterson creates intriguing and bold pieces of jewellery that play with boundaries, be it the relationship between garments and jewellery or the juxtaposition of different materials. Peterson draws inspiration from the construction of garments, the intimate feeling of the inside of a cardigan or the diffused back of a piece of embroidery. Pieces such as her ‘Collaged’ and ‘Stitched’ brooches bring such fragmented suggestions of garments into pieces of jewellery, often together with elements that are more closely identifiable as pieces of jewellery, such as silhouettes of beads. The main focus of Peterson’s work lies within the exploration of material qualities and combinations, allowing room for playfulness to enter the work. Another outcome of her investigations is the ‘Crocheted’ jewellery where the language of crocheting is mimicked in metal and the metal forms are then extended with actual crocheting using colourful yarns."
