I think it pisses God off if you walk by the color...in a field somewhere and don't notice it. -Alice Walker

When you sit on this bench, fallen-leaf(=rakuyo) shaped lights appear. They change color from green to red as time goes by. And when you leave, they fade out as if they decompose into earth. Visualizing the relationship among people...A trace of existence one never notices by oneself.

Magpie.

MagpieA_1

Magpie Rings is a Los Angeles-based jewelry label that features the audacious designs of artist Megan Greene. Begun in 2004, this project began with a playful sculpture experiment and was named for the bird that collects small objects as well as the designers own initials (M.A.G.). Each piece is thoughtfully designed and handmade for a woman of adventuresome taste.Sowear_1887_38469973

Additionally, Megan has a strong background in the visual arts. Most recently, an exhibition of her drawings was shown at Baumgartner gallery in NYC.

About Linda Scharf/stoneleafmoon.Lindascharf_dial_side_web_1

About the hats: I try to create hats that I've never seen before. Very often the yarn I'm working with inspires me to go in a particular direction. Most of my hats are made from handspun yarn, and the method of creation is experimental or freeform crochet...Lindascharf_dial_fr_web_1

...I want to create hats that look like the first hats that have ever been created
on the face of the earth. My hope is that people enjoy wearing these
one of a kind fun/sacred and/or protective objects, and that they enhance
the life of the people who wear them.

What dire offence from amorous causes springs! What mighty contests rise from trivial things! -Alexander Pope

rivial Pursuit / Pursuing the Trivial

We have all fallen to a whim of wanting something only to find it bore us quickly after we acquire it. Trivial Pursuit / Pursuing the Trivial is a body of work that is based on figurines, pull toys and whistles. It all began after teaching a childrens clay whistle workshop. I wondered just how far I could take this trivial piece of momentary fun - the clay whistle. I wanted to bring it into a fine art realm. Figurative hollow forms evolved, still functioning whistles, but very sculptural forms.

To bring things even a bit more to the edge embellishments of 22k gold leaf were applied. After whistles, I decided to also pursue old time pull toys and figurines in the same manner. What resulted was a group of work that took a bland trinket into a new world.

Swimmers, Sea Pods and Residual Memory.

The Swimmer series is based on realizing the parallels between life in the ocean and life in general. The foremost realization is that in order to float one must be relaxed. If you panic you sink. In life we experience many situations that challenge us to stay relaxed, to keep our heads above water.

Sea Pods and Residual Memory are based on the imprinted memories of my time on the ocean, and the sharing of worlds - land and sea.

Spice Up Your LifeSmpl_spicecubes111161

Advanced palates require complex and compelling flavors, and striking new presentations of age-old ingredients will inspire many cooks to try new dishes.

Velissa Van Scoyoc doesn’t think zesty spices belong in boring jars. Her Gusto! Spice Cakes are colorful blocks of “visual aroma” that inspire cooks to spike dishes with exotic seasonings and flavor infusions.

“I wanted to renew the value of spices using the latest in food technology,” Van Scoyoc says (IDSA.org 6.05). Her spice jar reinvention nabbed a prize at the Industrial Designers Society of America’s inaugural Scientistic Invitational in May 2005. Each cake’s look reflects its origin and use, from the Parsley Hay Bale to the East India Mix. Chefs can grate, slice, or dissolve the blocks into other ingredients, though some might be tempted to bite into the Cocoa Framboise.
