"MAELSTROM is a giant multilevel mobile, 12 feet in diameter and 11 feet high, with 6 independently rotating (360°) layers of cut paper. An upside-down whirlpool, it echoes both the East River currents and the cloud formations visible through the windows.
MAELSTROM utilizes the actual internal weather system of Smack Mellon to generate its movement, air currents produced by the rotation of four ceiling fans and hot air blown by the heating system.
On a deeper level, this work evokes the inevitable reminder of the nearby skyline: 9/11. Unknown forces, much bigger than us, beyond our control."

"Volume is an ongoing project documenting bound periodicals and professional journals in public libraries. Most of these publications are being replaced by their online counterparts, and in many cases the printed versions are no longer bound. Several titles photographed in the process of this project have been removed from the stacks due to space and budget constraints. Searching endless rows of these utilitarian texts, I am struck by the physical mass of knowledge and tenuousness of printed works as they fade from public consciousness.
The act of hunting for and photographing these objects is fundamental to my process. I do not touch, light, or manipulate the books and words – preferring to document them as found in the stacks, created by the librarian, and positioned by the last unknown reader.
The irony and graphic quality of repeating titles fascinate and draw, no matter how mundane, from known to obscure, from Vogue to Blood. I focus on simple, provocative titles that transcend the spines on which they appear.

enchantment of receiving presents. It can be used for items of
different sizes, which are thus held snugly and protected against
impact. The Mysticbox is built in two pieces like a frame for pictures.
Each frame is coated with a silicon skin and the items or presents are
positioned between the two skins. When sticking the two frames
together, a vacuum is created between the two silicon skins which holds
the package together. It consists of a front frame and a back frame."

"A collection of 33 brass and nickle plated large industrial safety or laundry pins mounted on a piece of rough cut beautifully patinated old lumber. Many of the pins have attached to them an additional ring with some sort of coded tag. Most of the pins have numbers stamped on their heads as well as patent dates of 1921. The pins average in length 5". The entire display measures 4 1/2" x 69"

ALADDIN ( 2006)
This body of work called ‘Aladdin’ is based on collections of different coloured glassware found in flea markets, car boot sales and junk shops. The groupings of glassware although different in shape, texture and function are united by their respective colour. At present there are four separate collections : amber, green, purple and clear, each differing in size reflecting the relative quantities of objects found.
The collections are housed in lightbox vitrines resembling museum showcases, which would normally be used to display artefacts but here actually function as floor lights. When illuminated the glassware magically glows like jewels. Although the glassware is presented in a precious way giving the objects a treasure like appearance, ‘all that glitters is not gold’.

"Nigel Gilks Cabinetmakers is dedicated to fine cabinetry and quality craftsmanship. The Booktree (pictured) is a modern bookcase which uses solid hand-made cubes that can be rearranged to create either a vertical or horizontal tree. It can be fixed or freestanding, allowing the pieces to be easily rearranged. The Booktree can be supplied with cubes in any size and any wood to meet customer specification."

The Bless wallscapes are documents of interiors where Bless products live or lived.
The wallscape posters can either be purchased as posters of a 3 m high x4m wide format ( comming in 9 stripes of 44,5 cm ) or as some sort of a paravent, made of 4 wooden pannels. These wooden pannels include eventually in addition some 3 dimensional shelves that enhance the feeling of confusion while aproaching, because real objects melt virtually into the 2 dimensional space. The visitor has the feeling to walk into a collage."

Ravioli - 12 x 12 packets filled with assorted items then distributed in pub
lic places
Temporary Services made large, twelve-inch ravioli. The ravioli and most of the filling are not edible, but it should still be a delight to cut them open and find out what is inside. Our ravioli have see-through plastic shells that have been heat-sealed on all four sides to keep the stuffing in and the rain-water out. The shells contain a variety of ingredients contributed by the three Temporary Services members and invited guests. Some of the items are practical. Other items encourage different types of play. Some ingredients are simply intended to amuse.
The ravioli were distributed in public places. They were attached to walls with staples and double-sided tape. They were left in front of doorways and strung up on clothes lines in town squares. The ravioli are gifts to unsuspecting passersby that encounter them. The project is intended to engage a wide range of people. Anyone that sees or takes a ravio li becomes the audience for this gesture.
In our living room we have a sadly ineffective gas heater (circa. 1955). This is a collection of images of semi-random objects that found their way to the shelf over it... -Shiralee Saul

designer's brother's closet by chance inspired this updated version. The designer was so taken with the frame, that he decided to case it in resin, textured mat and all.
