While traveling in 1999, Anne Becker, the company's founder, began collecting honeys from places around the world. Initially drawn to the wide range of color and how honey captures light, Anne started putting the most beautiful honeys in laboratory vials to see the honey outside of its usual "honey bear" packaging. Anne began giving the honey vials to friends as gifts. Her friends in turn wanted to know where they could buy them to give as gifts to other friends. Before long, she was filling test tubes and labeling corks by hand in her home kitchen.
As orders started increasing in numbers, she moved the honey into its own space in Dumbo, Brooklyn & Beehive Beeproducts was born in December of 1999.
Wanting to give customers an opportunity to enjoy more than just a single test tube of beehive honey, Anne designed the 8 ounce jar, inspired by 1970's generic food packaging.
Today, rawbee [beehive beeproducts] is still a small, local New York business. We are committed to supporting the work of small scale beekeepers in the United States & are passionate about the quality of our artisanal beekeepers honey.
There is a plethora of amazing varietal honeys to be found in this country and it is our goal to make those honeys available to consumers everywhere.
