OPEN SOURCE POETRY

"Generate poems are assembled from words parsed from submitted lines. Associations between these words are collected and a 20 line poem is generated by perusing these associations. Admittedly, the results are sketchy, but quite often surprising. Since these associations are built from the collective choices of numerous poets, in theory, the essence of poetry lies in these very associations. So inevitably, there are three or four lines that are down right impressive."

The poetic beauty of jewellery is that it moves on and lives a life, creating new stories with someone else – the wearer.

Stories of Jewellery - Signifiers of Sentiment

PO Box 2386 Kalamazoo MIchigan 49003

"Jewellery lives a life in partnership with those who wear it.

For those who wear specific pieces of jewellery everyday, the sentiment imbued within the piece is seldom separated from the object itself.

Contemporary Art Jewellery or Author Jewellery is to be worn and the work often becomes veiled with personal histories by the owner over time.  This intimacy between the object and owner creates a journey that few other works of art can take — a journey through the personal and sentimental.

The memories I have of my father’s mother parallel with the memory of a brooch she always wore on her blouse. These memories were the basis for the start of this project. The gold and diamond brooch featured with the project description is a recreation of the one my Grandmother wore — imbued with my own voice and interpretation in efforts to create a lineage of the object.

The goal of Stories of Jewellery - Signifiers of Sentiment is to communicate the invisible qualities that pieces of jewellery carry. Emotions given with a piece of jewellery have the potential to change and grow — thus mirroring the organic nature of our lives.

It is my intention to collect mailings for a period of time, through posting classified ads in local and national newspapers, and by using the gallery platform as a means to reach a broad and varied public.  The direction the project takes is wholly dependent on those who participate in this collection process."

We dance round in a ring and suppose, While the secret sits in the middle and knows.

"Secrets is a book that came to me when I was ready for it—but not one minute sooner.

In bookmaking, there is always a struggle to fit the concept, the design and the content together. There was no such struggle with Secrets; it flowed painlessly from day one.

Secrets began as a result of my unwillingness to write in a pristine and empty book I had just made. Its pages were beautiful in their blankness—leaving pencil marks would violate them.

How to resolve this conflict? The answer was literally clear: invisible writing! I slept on the thought. By the next morning it was obvious to me that the only content worthy of the book and the concealed ink would be words that could not be said out loud...." -Johanna Rogers

Object:Object Project is looking for submissions!

Object:Object is a project that hopes to examine the process of translating verbal communication to visual communication while connecting all of the participants involved through personal and heartfelt narrative.

Please help!

Write a detailed description of an object that you own or have owned which has particular sentimental value for you. Please describe the objects structure with as much detail as possible - be specific about it's size, shape, colour and other necessary aesthetic elements. If you like, include a short written narrative about how you came to own the object or a short story of why this object is of special value to you. Please do not submit photographs or other visuals of the item.

The written descriptions collected will be remade in sculptural form by an artist participant. Artists will use only the written description, with no visual reference, to recreate these objects. The first showing of completed pieces will be installed in an upcoming collateral event for the Open Engagement Conference in Regina, Saskatchewan this October, 2007.

Submissions are being accepted now.

"People have long suspected that there are very special powers inherent in stones. Now it has been proved that they can even speak! Whether plainly or poetically depends entirely on you - a ‘tender whisper’ or an unemotional ‘your meal is in the fridge’ - you can provide the talking pebble with a new text. It is sensitive to light and shade."

"Kirsty Hall     The Diary Project is a year long art project. Every day in 2007 I am drawing on an envelope, placing something secret inside and posting it to myself before my midnight deadline. When these envelopes return to me they will be kept unopened until they can be exhibited as a whole artwork. Members of the public will then be able to open the letters and investigate the contents. Once the letters have been opened, the contents will be displayed on the Diary Project blog. The rules for the project are posted here. If you're a gallery owner who would like to exhibit the completed project in 2008, please email me."  -Kirsty Hall

It's Nice That

Link: It's Nice That.Circle

"It's Nice That is a daily blog launched in April 2007 by designers Will Hudson and Jez Burrows to locate, collect and share Nice things.

It seemed to them that, without anyone noticing, 'nice' had become this limp opinion neither complimentary or constructive. A weak and ambiguous non-word that ended up sounding snide or inadequate even when it was offered genuinely. Stepping forward, they decided to take back Nice and turn it into a steely workhorse of a word, significant and sincere, with a renewed purpose.

So what is it? It's an idea you wish you thought of first - succinct, beautiful and well executed. Although primarily interested in emerging creative work they also realise that it's not the be-all and end-all. They want to tell and be told about ideas, originality, imagination and creativity in any context. Not the best, the biggest or the most popular, just things to give you that quick jolt of passing attraction that makes you think 'It's nice that.'

"Things that are living in the pockets of your bag, jeans or jacket: travel and pay checks, old cigarette pack that just looks interesting, sugar lumps and all the stuff that has found home in your pockets. They are all the treasures our project is looking for! Our goal is not only bring all this objects into light but show the owner of them.

The process.

Place the objects on the scanner. Place your face/part of it on the scanner as well. Aaaaand scan it! Send us the picture you've got to:"

"A decorative ball ...or a vase?"

Fanciful raised ceramic, hovers, lightly over the smooth surfaced sphere ... This peculiar ornamentation anticipates our curiosity, and compels our fingertips,  to peel away that delicate layer and in doing so, revealing another pattern - openings and invitation ...
