OPEN SOURCE POETRY

"Generate poems are assembled from words parsed from submitted lines. Associations between these words are collected and a 20 line poem is generated by perusing these associations. Admittedly, the results are sketchy, but quite often surprising. Since these associations are built from the collective choices of numerous poets, in theory, the essence of poetry lies in these very associations. So inevitably, there are three or four lines that are down right impressive."

We met,—’t was in a crowd.

created at TagCrowd.com

"TagCrowd is a web application for visualizing word frequencies in any user-supplied text by creating what is popularly known as a tag cloud or text cloud.

It was created by Daniel Steinbock, a doctoral student in Design and Education at Stanford University...

When we look at a tag cloud, we see not only a richly informative, beautiful image that communicates much in a single glance. We see a whole new approach to text.

TagCrowd is being used far beyond the online realm:

    * as topic summaries for speeches and written works
    * as visual summaries for survey data mining
    * as name tags for conferences, cocktail parties or wherever new collaborations start
    * as resumes in a single glance
    * as visual poetry

The list goes on and continues to grow...

Our mission is to push the innovation envelope for tagging into online and face-to-face communities of all stripes."

"Through their education, few designers have the chance to fully understand the creative process. Now studied and used for many different outlets, creativity still has fundamental steps that we should not forget to obtain a maximum of results, pleasure and satisfaction. isotopelab offers online exercices, to make your imagination flourish positively. You can choose exercices depending on the time you can invest, 30, 90 minutes, or a long term project. For open minded people only, you can also get constructive feedback on your work from exercices' author, exchange different points of view, see things differently and so on... isotopelab is divided in 3 sections: • the exercices section is divided in sub sections depending on the time that you can invest. 30 minutes, 1.5 hour, and long term projects. • in the ressources section, you will find links to different websites, books, etc.which are related to creativity, color, typography, etc. • the galery section shows the results of all exercices. and now, you can also participate!"

"The Random project has gathered an international collective of designers and artists to produce typography-led work created in response to random words. Whilst many participants are currently based in London, others live as far afield as Brazil and India, giving an international perspective to the collective's work.373854901_7e89e355bf

Each participant picked a number between 1 and 100 which corresponded to an unseen word cut out of an issue of Time Out magazine. This randomly selected word then became the basis for their project.

Why Time Out? Because it’s a magazine that reflects London – from the everyday reality of living and travelling in the city to the eclectic and cultural flotsam it offers. This emanates through every level of the publication; if individual words are taken out of context they still combine to form a lexicon that is peculiarly 'London'."

There is nothing so annoying as to have two people talking when you're busy interrupting. -Mark Twain

"Better by Design grew out of the Design Taskforce strategy, which promotes the use ofBetter_by_design_01 design as a differentiator for products and services in export markets. The challenge was engaging New Zealand business at a leadership level, and changing the preconceptions of design being associated with aesthetics and output, rather than a fundamental business driver. This demanded a different approach, as images of design would only reinforce the status quo. The solution was to make voice visible. Three-dimensional speech bubbles were created, complete with provocations posing questions around the value of design.

Each speech bubble was connected via two magnets. Five ceiling panels each supported a grid of fifty cables per panel. The cables incorporated custom machined housings with press-fitted magnets. The partner magnet was welded into the vinyl speech bubbles for fast installation. At the appropriate moment, conference delegates could remove these bubbles to take their favoriteBetter_by_design_02 design provocations or questions with them. The magnets allowed the delegates to install the bubbles in other environments, continue the interaction, and spark further discussion."

Jury Comment
"What a great way to inspire conversation about design and business to a group of non-designers! I especially like the ability for the attendees to easily remove a question or "bubble" to initiate a conversation with a colleague. The repetitive black shape with the same typeface is just loud enough to be seen but doesn't dominate the space. A lot of bang for the buck."

The Idea

"Cut the bindings off of books found at a used book store. Find poems in the pages by the process of obliteration. Put pages in the mail and send them all around the world. Lather, rinse, repeat."

"We love labels. We really do--as a society, I mean. It's so much easier to understand the world around us if we name it, tie it down, and distance ourselves from the parts we don't like.... We all want to beloved, we all want to love, and we all want"

"How does it work? You'll be randomly paired with a partner who's online and using the feature. Over a 90-second period, you and your partner will be shown the same set of images and asked to provide as many labels as possible to describe each image you see. When your label matches your partner's label, you'll earn some points and move on to the next image until time runs out. After time expires, you can explore the images you've seen and the websites where those images were found. And we'll show you the points you've earned throughout the session."
